Neurofunctional Acupuncture FAQ

Please reach us at louisalairmt@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Louisa is certified in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture through McMaster University. This evidence-informed approach targets the nervous system, nerve roots, and motor points to create neuromodulatory effects, often using electrical stimulation to elicit muscle contractions and relaxation.

A few benefits of using electro acupuncture include:

-desensitization to pain

-improvement in activation of targeted muscles

-release of endorphins

-improve circulation and muscle tone

-sense of relaxation

When performed properly, acupuncture is very safe. We do not needle high risk areas to minimize the risk of injury.

To keep patients safe we do not needle:

-Parascapular area

-Stay within 2 finger widths from the midline of the spine

-We never insert needles perpendicular to the chest wall and ribcage

We use a gentle, "no pain" needling technique designed to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the treatment. When working on more sensitive areas, you may feel an achy sensation, which is normal.

In accordance with CMTO standards, we use sterile, single-use needles that are individually packaged and safely disposed of in a sharps container after each treatment.

For larger muscle groups such as the glutes, we typically use 75 mm needles, while 40 mm needles are used for most other areas of the body.

Occasionally, a small drop pf blood may occur upon needle removal, which is a normal response. In such cases, a cotton swab is used to apply pressure to the site to minimize the risk of bruising.

Everyone responds differently to acupuncture treatment. It's completely normal to experience mild muscle soreness, similar to what you might feel after a challenging workout. You may also feel relaxed, slightly tired, and notice reduced pain or improved mobility in the treated area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at louisalairmt@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Acupuncture is not recommended for individuals who are in their first trimester of pregnancy or taking blood thinners. In these cases, Fascia Stretch Therapy (FST) is a safe and effective alternative.

Fascia Stretch Therapy (FST) is a gentle, assisted stretching technique that targets the fascia—connective tissue surrounding muscles and joints. It helps improve flexibility, reduce pain, and restore mobility. Guided breathing and movement make it both relaxing and effective for recovery, posture, and performance.

At this time, we do not offer traditional relaxation massages performed under sheets. However, Fascia Stretch Therapy and Acupuncture treatments can provide a deep sense of relaxation while being more active and therapeutically focused than a standard massage.
